How to play: you and North play against West and East, thirteen cards each. The auction comes first: bid a level and a strain — a suit or no-trump — each bid higher than the last, or pass. Three passes close it, and the last bid is the contract, which its side must make by taking that many tricks over six. The first of that partnership to name the strain is declarer; their partner becomes dummy, laying their hand face up for declarer to play as well as their own. Then thirteen tricks: follow suit if you can, and the highest trump — or, with none played, the highest card of the suit led — takes it. Make the contract and your side scores it; fall short and the defenders score instead. First side to 1000 points takes the match.
