How to play: you play white and move first. Tap a piece — or drag it — and the squares it may go to light up. Pawns step one square forward (two from their starting rank) and capture diagonally, knights jump in an L, bishops run the diagonals, rooks the ranks and files, the queen does both, and the king moves one square any way. Move the king two squares toward a rook to castle; a pawn that reaches the far rank promotes to a queen. Attack the king so that it has no way out and it is checkmate; a side with no legal move and no check against it is stalemate, and the game is drawn.
