How to play: sensei writes an English word or sentence on the board, and says the Japanese out loud once you have answered. Pick the Japanese from four choices — each with its reading, its own speaker and its own copy button — or tap the scrambled tiles into order to build the sentence. Right answers earn a cheer; wrong answers reveal the answer, teach a useful note and return later until you get them right. There is no failing. The lesson covers the greeting at the door, the menu and its courses, the food and the drinks, the counters a dish is ordered by (一杯 ippai, 一皿 hitosara, 一本 ippon), the sentences that order it, and the bill — the Japanese a customer or a waiter needs in a real 食堂. This classroom is the lesson before the Japanese course's diner floor.
