Take your seat — lǎoshī will write the first question on the board.
This browser has no Mandarin voice installed, so the words are shown but not spoken.
How to play: lǎoshī writes an ENGLISH word or sentence on the board and you give it back in Mandarin. Most questions are four choices — each shows the Mandarin with its pinyin, and the two small buttons beside it copy it to your clipboard and say it aloud, as often as you like. A SENTENCE may instead arrive as a bank of scrambled characters: tap them into the right order, and tap any one again to take it back out before you check. Right, and lǎoshī cheers you on; wrong, and you are told the answer, lǎoshī encourages you, and the question comes back around later until you get it right. There is no failing — the class ends when every word has been answered, and the marking says how many you cleared first time. The lesson covers every word the Beijing patrol game uses — the nine place kinds, the five radio calls, the eight actions at the scene, the four turns that steer the car, the dispatch, the scene, the fines and everything spoken at the kerb. This classroom is the lesson before the Mandarin course's patrol.
