Vietnamese Home: In Class

Vietnamese Feud: the Lesson Summary plays as a game show (the header's button switches back to the classroom). Each board asks for the most common answers to an English prompt — pick the Vietnamese tiles that are on it. Most tiles are decoys: one that is not on the board is a strike and costs 10 points, and answers you find after a strike still go up but score nothing. You stay on the board until every answer is found. Build rounds ask you to put a sentence in order; a wrong one comes back later and scores nothing when it does. The Test type row sets the mix of boards and build rounds.
Who Can Speak Vietnamese?: any of the last five levels before the Lesson Summary — and, behind the Feud, the Summary itself — plays as a prime-time quiz show (the header's button switches back to the classroom). Fifteen questions, three lifelines — 50:50, Ask the Audience, Phone a Friend — and every answer glows as a final answer before it is marked. There is no failing: a wrong answer keeps what is banked, and the question comes round again until you get it right.
How to play: cô giáo writes a word of the HOUSEHOLD on the board — the word, written properly with its tone marks, and the way it is said underneath — and speaks it out loud. Pick the English that matches from the four choices. Right, and cô giáo cheers you on; wrong, and you are told the answer, cô giáo encourages you, and the word comes back around later until you get it right. There is no failing — the class ends when every word is answered, and the marking says how many you cleared first time. The copy button puts the Vietnamese on your clipboard, and the speaker button has cô giáo say the line again. The expand button on the room takes the class full screen with the question and the four answers still on screen.

This is the lesson before the house. It teaches the words Vietnamese Home: Run the Household is played in: the FAMILY (bố Dad, mẹ Mum, ông and bà the grandparents, anh and chị the older brother and sister, em the younger one, con a child, cháu a grandchild), the rooms of a Vietnamese house, the things in them, and the chores done in them — nấu ăn, giặt / phơi / là quần áo, rửa bát, quét nhà. ⚠ The pronouns are the point: Vietnamese has no neutral “I”, so you call yourself by your kinship word — a child says con, Grandma says bà — and the house game asks you to know whose mouth a word came out of. The lesson is always the full one — the whole deck, and it is part of the Vietnamese course.
